The old buzzard Hillary Clinton (go ahead call me misogynist) is circling Joe Biden’s wounded political corpse. A new poll shows Hillary topping all other Democratic candidates for president:
A new poll of registered Democrats has Hillary Clinton as their top choice for the 2020 Democratic Party presidential nomination — and she’s not even running.
The online Harris Poll survey released by the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard found that Clinton placed first with 21% of the vote, followed closely by former Vice President Joe Biden at 20%, Sen. Bernie Sanders at 12%, Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 9% and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg at 7%.
It polled 1,859 voters and was conducted between Nov. 27 and 29 of this year.
Hillary has been smarting about her 2016 defeat for the last three years. She has blamed everyone for her loss except the main culprit, herself. There is no doubt in my mind that she would love a rematch.
If Hillary were to run against Trump again, she would probably win. I think many of the suburban women voters who held their nose and voted Trump in 2016 would swing in her favor. The progressive voters who stayed home believing that Hillary did not need their votes will show up. Above all, Hillary would not be running against a blank slate upon which voters could project their every wish and desire. Trump now has a record – parts of it are positive such as the economy but parts are negative like his failure to build the wall.
In a rematch, Trump would not be able to use his greatest rhetorical weapon against her in 2016: the nickname Crooked Hillary. Well, he could still use it but it won’t have the same effect since Trump has been in charge of the Department of Justice and Hillary has faced no prosecution. Hillary could say “Remember when Trump said during a debate that if he were president I would be in jail? Well he has been president for almost four years and I am nowhere near jail. Actually, he’s the one who maybe facing jail when he leaves office.”
Instead of pursuing the ridiculous Democratic attack like that Trump is a threat to democracy, a Mussolini in waiting or Putin’s puppet, Hillary could simply point to Trump’s record and say “I told you there would be no wall. I told you there would be no mass deportations, no changes to birthright citizenship.” She could point to the deficit ballooning to one trillion dollars again and Obamacare still in place. This time Hillary would have the rhetorical upper hand but simply tagging Trump as Don the Con.
