The Joe Biden presidential ship is in the process of righting itself. Last Saturday, he came in second in the Nevada caucuses. Yes, he was far behind the first place finish of Bernie Sanders. Nevertheless, it was a vast improvement over his miserable performance in Iowa and New Hampshire. Last night, he delivered his best performance in a debate. He still had his gaffes (150 million died from gun violence!) but at this point I think gaffes have become his signature. A Biden without gaffes just would not be Joe Biden.
This morning, more good news for the Biden campaign. South Carolina’s kingmaker Jim Clyburn endorsed Uncle Joe:
U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, the highest-ranking black member of Congress and the kingmaker of South Carolina’s Democratic political orbit, on Wednesday endorsed Joe Biden’s presidential campaign. The backing could provide a much-needed boost for the former vice president heading into South Carolina’s primary.
Clyburn said he was calling on the people of South Carolina to “stand with” Biden.
“I know Joe Biden. I know his character, his heart, and his record,” Clyburn tweeted. “Joe Biden has stood for the hard-working people of South Carolina.”
Perhaps, losing his front runner status was a blessing in disguise. In last night’s debate, most of the fire was directed at Bernie and the revolution got a little bruised. I am on record predicting a Biden/Klobuchar ticket. I still believe that at the end of the day Biden is a safe choice for the Democrats and a compromise candidate that all parts of the party’s coalition can support albeit with little excitement.
UPDATE: Clyburn even managed to suggest MLK would have endorsed Biden. The news for Biden are getting better and better:
South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn endorses Joe Biden: “Our challenge is making the greatness of this country accessible and affordable for all. … Nobody with whom I’ve ever worked in public life is any more committed … than Joe Biden” https://t.co/7G0toYlQsa pic.twitter.com/NQf04n29Yg
